Our take

About Jongomero

LABA Jongomero is a tented safari camp in a remote part of Ruaha National Park, beside the seasonal Jongomero River.

Raised tents beneath thatched roofs give the camp a traditional safari character. The riverbed setting is part of the appeal, with conditions changing through the year; a stay here should be chosen for the location and guiding as well as the room.

What to do

Activities

Activities centre on expertly guided game drives through Ruaha’s diverse landscapes, where guests may encounter large elephant herds, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs and an abundance of birdlife. The park is particularly known for its predator action and dramatic scenery. Walking safaris are a highlight, offering a deeper, more intimate perspective on the bush, while the camp’s remote setting ensures every outing feels exclusive and unhurried.

Planning your stay

How Jongomero fits your journey.

Jongomero suits a stay with enough nights to settle into its quieter corner of Ruaha. Combine it with Nyerere for a varied southern safari, allowing the flight schedule to guide the order of parks.

The right fit

Would Jongomero suit you?

Who it suits

Travellers who enjoy substantial safari tents, a riverbed setting and time away from the busier northern safari circuit.

Things to consider

The river is seasonal, so photographs with flowing water do not describe every month. Remote access and flight services also need to be checked before fixing a short itinerary.

Useful to know

Jongomero FAQs.

Is Jongomero a riverside camp?

It is beside the seasonal Jongomero River in Ruaha. The riverbed and surrounding habitat remain part of the setting even when the river is dry.

What type of accommodation does it offer?

The accommodation is in raised safari tents beneath thatched roofing, with decks looking into the surrounding landscape.

Can we combine Jongomero with Siwandu?

Yes. Siwandu is in Nyerere, so the combination gives you contrasting southern parks. We check the connecting flights and appropriate stay length in each.

Is a remote location a guarantee of private sightings?

No. A quieter setting can be appealing, but sightings and the number of vehicles at them cannot be guaranteed.
