Our take

About Lemala Ewanjan

Lemala Ewanjan is a traditional tented camp in the Seronera Valley of the central Serengeti. Its location makes it a useful base for resident wildlife and big cats throughout the year, with migration herds passing through at certain times rather than defining the entire experience. The atmosphere is distinctly that of a canvas safari camp.

The camp occupies the end of a secluded valley, looking across open plains without a procession of passing vehicles immediately in front of the tents. Seronera’s rivers help sustain wildlife when the migration is elsewhere. The main tent brings together leather sofas, rugs, lamps, wooden furniture and a bar, creating a comfortable shared gathering place rather than a large resort-style facility. Outdoor seating and the evening campfire encourage guests to spend time outside. Seronera Airstrip is approximately a half-hour drive away, with the final transfer introducing the surrounding safari landscape.

Accommodation

Rooms

Standard tents have two double beds, wooden floors and storage cabinets, with a shower and flushing toilet in the en-suite bathroom. Decks have loungers for quiet time between drives. The two-bedroom family tents give each bedroom bathroom facilities and share an outside deck. Solar lighting provides the essential camp comforts while retaining the canvas atmosphere.

Food & drink

Dining

Meals are served in a separate dining tent overlooking the plains. Each travelling party has its own table, so the experience combines a social camp atmosphere with space for private conversation. The kitchen uses a rotating set menu, providing variety across a longer stay rather than repeating the same meal every evening. Dietary requirements can be accommodated with notice. Drinks in the lounge or around the fire make a natural beginning or end to dinner.

What to do

Activities

Game drives explore the Seronera Valley and surrounding plains. Lemala’s safari vehicles carry charging points and a fridge; a private vehicle can be requested at additional cost, subject to availability. A balloon flight provides a different view of the Serengeti, with an early departure and breakfast after landing. We would usually suggest keeping at least one morning unscheduled so your guide can respond to fresh sightings rather than work around a fixed timetable. The guide can also help interpret animal behaviour and quieter sightings, making the experience more than a search for a headline photograph.

Planning your stay

How Lemala Ewanjan fits your journey.

Three nights offers a useful central Serengeti stay without rushing each drive. Ngorongoro fits naturally into a wider northern circuit; a northern migration camp can add seasonal variety on a longer safari. We choose the second camp around the wildlife area rather than matching accommodation styles.

The right fit

Would Lemala Ewanjan suit you?

Who it suits

Travellers who want a traditional tented camp and a central wildlife base. Family tents merit comparison for parents who want a shared arrangement rather than booking separate standard units.

Things to consider

Central Serengeti access to resident wildlife is different from being beside northern river crossings or southern calving concentrations. Clarify whether your booking refers to tent units or bedrooms, particularly with family accommodation.

Useful to know

Lemala Ewanjan FAQs.

Where is Lemala Ewanjan?

The camp is in the Seronera Valley of central Serengeti. This makes it a resident-wildlife base rather than a camp that relocates with the migration.

Is Ewanjan the same as Lemala Tented Camp?

No. Ewanjan is the fixed central camp; Lemala Tented Camp refers to seasonal Mara and Ndutu locations. We distinguish the exact property in your proposal.

Does Ewanjan offer family tents?

Yes. Two-bedroom family tents provide a different arrangement from standard tents. We confirm occupancy and count accommodation units separately from individual guest bedrooms.

Should we add a northern camp to Ewanjan?

Consider it when your dates and available nights justify a different safari area. For a short trip, one well-chosen location can be preferable to spending time transferring.
