Our take

About Nimali Mara

Nimali Mara sits on a small rise, tucked between boulders and a dappled forest, in the remote parts of Northern Serengeti. This intimate, permanent tented camp is ideally positioned to catch the best of the Serengeti action along the Mara River, yet delightfully tucked away from the throngs of visitors.

The camp's architecture seamlessly combines Bedouin-style canvas roofs with solid frames, achieving a sleek and modern design that subtly integrates with the surrounding landscape. The central area is enveloped by retractable glass walls, opening onto a spacious deck that extends to breathtaking vistas. Inside, the well-appointed lounge boasts intimate seating areas, while the dining space effortlessly incorporates indigenous timber into its contemporary aesthetic. As night falls, the outdoor fire pit becomes the focal point, where lively conversations unfold under a canopy of twinkling stars.

Dining

Meals at Nimali Mara are planned around the safari day, with early breakfasts, relaxed lunches and dinners in camp or outdoors when conditions allow. Dietary requirements can be arranged before travel.

What to do

Activities

Morning and afternoon game drives explore the northern Serengeti, with resident wildlife as well as seasonally moving herds. Optional balloon flights, bush dinners, sundowners and spa treatments can be arranged. The shared infinity pool gives time to relax between outings. The Mara River location provides access to crossing areas, but neither herds nor crossings are guaranteed.

Planning your stay

How Nimali Mara fits your journey.

Three or four nights creates time for northern Serengeti drives and quieter hours at camp. Pair with Ngorongoro or another Serengeti region on a longer itinerary. We plan for the broader wildlife landscape rather than assuming every drive will reach a river crossing.

The right fit

Would Nimali Mara suit you?

Who it suits

Couples who like contemporary accommodation within a northern tented-camp setting. The hillside and boulder landscape are part of the attraction, rather than simply a place to sleep between outings.

Things to consider

River-crossing access depends on the camp’s position, driving and seasonal herd movements. The hillside layout is worth discussing if steps or paths are a concern. Check the exact room category and any family requirements.

Useful to know

Nimali Mara FAQs.

Where is Nimali Mara?

It is in northern Serengeti, set among boulders and a wooded hillside. We plan the safari around that actual location rather than the property name alone.

Does staying at Nimali Mara guarantee crossings?

No. Herd movements and crossing times are unpredictable. Several nights allow flexibility, while resident wildlife and the wider northern landscape provide other safari interests.

Is the camp’s hillside layout relevant when booking?

Yes. If mobility or walking distances are concerns, we check the room position and paths with the camp before recommending it.

What would you combine with Nimali Mara?

Ngorongoro provides a contrasting wildlife setting, while an eastern or southern Serengeti camp can add variety on a longer safari if the season and transfers work.
