Our take

About Siwandu

Siwandu is a tented camp beside Lake Nzerakera in Nyerere National Park, combining game drives with boat and walking safaris in the Rufiji river landscape.

This is a strong choice for travellers who want to experience Nyerere from both land and water. The camp sits by the lake, with a relaxed rhythm that allows time for wildlife viewing from the water as well as longer drives into the park. We would pair it with Ruaha for a contrasting southern safari, or continue to Zanzibar after the bush.

Accommodation

Rooms

There are thirteen lake-facing tented suites, raised on wooden decks beneath Makuti thatched roofs. Each terrace has a lounge, dining table and freestanding copper bath, with an open-air shower finished in green zellige tiles. Ceiling fans above the beds, charging points and Wi-Fi provide practical comforts while retaining the canvas setting.

Food & drink

Dining

Meals can be served on the terrace or outdoors, with arrangements shaped by the day’s safari. Boat outings may include a breakfast or sundowner setting when conditions and the camp schedule allow. Let us know dietary needs when enquiring.

What to do

Activities

Game drives, guided walks and boat safaris explore Nyerere’s land and waterways, with the programme governed by water levels, weather and park rules. Back at camp, the lake-facing gym has cardio and strength equipment. The tent’s terrace and outdoor copper bath offer a quieter way to enjoy the setting between outings. The two shared swimming pools offer further time to relax.

Planning your stay

How Siwandu fits your journey.

Use Siwandu as a lakeside base for Nyerere, with enough time for a varied programme. Jongomero or another Ruaha camp can add contrasting terrain; a beach extension requires separate flight and transfer planning.

The right fit

Would Siwandu suit you?

Who it suits

Travellers who like canvas accommodation with a settled lodge feel, lake views and the possibility of exploring beyond game drives.

Things to consider

Activities on the water depend on seasonal conditions. Canvas rooms remain close to the outdoors; confirm room allocation, access and family requirements before booking.

Useful to know

Siwandu FAQs.

Where is Siwandu located?

Siwandu is beside Lake Nzerakera in Nyerere National Park. It provides access to the surrounding safari landscape rather than a beach or island stay.

What are the rooms like?

Accommodation is in raised safari tents with thatched roofing and outdoor decks. We confirm the precise room arrangements and amenities for your booking.

Are boat safaris always available?

No activity on the water should be assumed irrespective of season. Water levels, weather and local operating decisions affect what can run.

Is Jongomero a useful pairing?

Yes. Jongomero is in Ruaha, so the combination offers two southern parks. The practicality depends on available flight connections and the length of your trip.
