What to do

Activities

Game drives are the main focus at Lamai, with expert guides taking guests into the heart of big cat territory and to the banks of the Mara River during the migration months. Walking safaris offer a more intimate perspective on the landscape, led by highly trained guides and trackers. Outside the migration season, the region remains wonderfully quiet and rich in resident wildlife, making it a year-round safari gem.

Planning your stay

How Lamai Serengeti fits your journey.

We would usually allow three or four nights at Lamai. During the northern migration season this gives flexibility for longer river outings without making every day about waiting for a crossing. Outside that period, choose it for its kopje setting and resident wildlife. Ngorongoro adds a contrasting crater experience; Namiri Plains adds the eastern Serengeti.

The right fit

Would Lamai Serengeti suit you?

Who it suits

Travellers who prefer open-fronted safari rooms and a lodge that feels part of the landscape. We would consider it for couples and returning safari guests who value views, guiding and time to explore the northern Serengeti.

Things to consider

The lodge is in the northern Serengeti, so it is not our first choice for a trip focused on southern calving grounds. River crossings cannot be promised. Rooms among the rocks and the open-fronted design deserve discussion if mobility, insects or a fully enclosed bedroom are concerns.

Useful to know

Lamai Serengeti FAQs.

Where is Lamai Serengeti?

Lamai is built around Kogakuria Kopje in the northern Serengeti. Its elevated rooms look across the plains, making the landscape and views an important part of the stay.

Can you see Mara River crossings from Lamai?

The northern location makes Lamai an option for river-country safaris when the herds are in this part of the Serengeti. Crossings are unpredictable, and we would allow several nights rather than promise one on a particular day.

Is Lamai worth visiting outside migration season?

Yes, if you want northern Serengeti scenery and resident wildlife. We would choose it for those qualities rather than expect the migrating herds to be nearby throughout the year.

What is the difference between Lamai and Lamai Private?

Lamai is the main lodge; Lamai Private is a separate exclusive-use option with four rooms. We compare the party size, available dates and guiding arrangements before deciding which makes the better fit.

Can Lamai be combined with another Serengeti camp?

Yes. Namiri Plains creates a north-and-east combination with different habitats. Whether two camps are worthwhile depends on the length of your safari and the time spent transferring between them.
