About Namiri Plains

Namiri Plains places you in the eastern Serengeti, where open grasslands and resident predators make wildlife the focus throughout the year. The setting is especially associated with lion and cheetah, with resident plains game sustaining wildlife interest beyond the migrating herds. Low buildings and wide horizons create a feeling of space, while the water source near camp brings another focus to the view. It is a Serengeti stay shaped by its eastern location and predator habitats.

The camp combines contemporary safari design with a pool, library and spa. Its setting beside the Ngare Nanyuki River suits travellers who want time in big cat country.

Its low buildings use pale local stone alongside canvas, soft textiles and wide openings, allowing the surrounding grasslands to remain the centre of attention. The information centre offers background on the ecosystem, and the main lounge and bar create sociable spaces without giving the camp the feel of a large hotel.

Rooms

There are 11 tented suites, including a family suite. Sliding doors open onto generous decks with outdoor baths; all have en-suite bathrooms.

Double and twin arrangements are available. Bathrooms have indoor showers and double vanities in addition to the outdoor tub. The stone construction helps moderate temperature, while the deck provides space for a quiet morning coffee. Families should request the dedicated family accommodation when enquiring rather than assume extra beds will suit every suite.

Fresh baking accompanies meals in camp, with packed breakfasts or lunches available for longer days exploring.

Meals are prepared on site, and the team can organise bush picnics so that lunch does not interrupt a longer wildlife outing. Communal meals provide opportunities to talk about the day’s sightings, with individual tables available on request. Dietary requirements should be discussed before arrival.

What to do

Activities

Game drives, guided walks and optional photographic safaris explore the plains. Migration viewing depends on the season; pool time and spa treatments offer a slower afternoon.

Specialist photographic vehicles and meetings with cheetah researchers can be requested at additional cost and need advance arrangements. Walking is for guests aged twelve and above and remains subject to the guide’s assessment of conditions.

Namiri is in the eastern Serengeti, not beside the Mara River. Migration viewing can involve longer drives, and sightings depend on where the herds are. Seronera airstrip is around two hours away. We would check the family suite, private vehicle arrangements and any walking requests before confirming.

Is Namiri Plains a good camp for the Great Migration?

Its main strength is resident wildlife, particularly big cats. Migrating herds may be accessible seasonally, sometimes on longer drives. If river crossings are your priority, we would compare a northern Serengeti camp for your dates.

How do you get to Namiri Plains?

Seronera is the closest airstrip, followed by an approximately two-hour drive to camp. We plan the flight and transfer together so that arrival and departure days leave a realistic amount of time for safari.

Does Namiri Plains suit families?

Children aged five and above are welcomed, and there is a family suite. Walking has a higher minimum age. The private Retreats offer another option for families wanting their own space; we compare the exact layout before booking.

How many nights would you recommend at Namiri Plains?

Three or four nights is our preferred starting point. This allows time for longer outings as well as slower hours in camp, without needing to pack every wildlife experience into a single full day.

Can Namiri Plains be combined with Zanzibar?

Yes. We can arrange a Serengeti safari followed by Zanzibar, with the internal flight and island transfer matched to available schedules. Adding Ngorongoro first gives a broader northern Tanzania journey.
