About Oliver’s Camp

Oliver’s Camp occupies a quieter part of southern Tarangire, close to the Silale Swamps and their dry-season concentrations of wildlife. Southern Tarangire combines baobabs, woodland and the Silale wetland landscape. During the dry months, permanent water draws wildlife into this part of the park, giving the location a particular seasonal significance. The camp’s open decks and traditional tents allow that landscape to remain present during quiet hours as well as on a guided outing.

Two accommodation wings each have their own lounge and dining space. A central cocktail bar and swimming pool provide a welcoming pause between adventures.

The camp’s origins date to 1992, and its design retains the feel of a traditional safari camp. Thatched roofs, open lounges and views towards the floodplains emphasise the setting. Recent refinements include lighter wooden decks, improved room lighting and natural-fibre carpets. A waterhole below the pool adds interest to time spent around the main area.

Accommodation

Rooms

The camp has 15 tents, including two family tents and a honeymoon tent. Private decks and en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers accompany the canvas accommodation.

Tents are arranged in wings of ten and five, each with its own lounge and dining space. Double or twin sleeping arrangements, generous indoor space and furnished verandas make them useful for more than an overnight stop. The family and honeymoon categories should be requested specifically, as layout matters as much as the total number of beds.

Food & drink

Dining

Meals are prepared in camp using local produce where possible, with picnics available when you stay out on safari.

The dining decks keep you connected to Tarangire’s landscape. Fresh cooking and relaxed service suit the camp’s atmosphere, while packed meals allow a walking or driving day to continue without returning for lunch. We would tell the team about children’s meals and dietary needs before travel.

What to do

Activities

Game drives, guided walking and night drives offer different ways to explore Tarangire. Walking introduces tracks, plants and smaller wildlife, while the swamps are particularly rewarding for birdwatching. Back at camp, the shared swimming pool adds a relaxed option between outings. Walks and night drives are planned around your party, age requirements, local conditions and the booked activity package.

Planning your stay

How Oliver’s Camp fits your journey.

Three nights lets you explore southern Tarangire and enjoy more than one style of outing. Add Ngorongoro and the Serengeti for a wider northern safari. Where walking is important, allow time for it and confirm suitability rather than fitting it around an already rushed route.

The right fit

Would Oliver’s Camp suit you?

Who it suits

Travellers who want a tented camp with wildlife and guiding central to the stay. Family and honeymoon tents offer different arrangements to compare with standard accommodation.

Things to consider

The camp is in southern Tarangire, so park access and transfer time should be planned around that position. Walking and family activities have separate requirements. The wings and tent categories deserve attention when allocating a party.

Useful to know

Oliver’s Camp FAQs.

Where is Oliver’s Camp?

It is in southern Tarangire near the Silale Swamps area. We plan arrival driving and wildlife outings around that location.

Is walking automatically included every day?

No. Suitability and arrangements depend on ages, guiding and conditions. Tell us if walking is a priority so we can plan it explicitly.

Are there family and honeymoon tents?

Yes. The inventory includes dedicated options with different purposes. We confirm the correct category and sleeping arrangement before booking.

How many nights does Tarangire deserve?

We would start with three for an unhurried stay with a mix of outings and camp time. A single overnight can leave little time after the arrival and onward travel.
